PDFScanner - Scanning and OCR App Reviews

This makes scanning and digitizing loads of documents really easy and quick. I have a friend who invested over $60 in another application for digitizing his documents and I can’t find anything that software does that PDFScanner doesn’t. A sheet fed document scanner is great with this PDFScanner, but not needed if you have only a few documents.

Not much to say here other and the app works without spending tons on full blown acrobat

A simple little app that does exactly what it says! Far—FAR—easier to use than the software my scanner shipped with, including OCR that actually works—a must if you’re searching for that receipt for the “LCD TV” but don’t remember that you named it something less helpful like “Costco 2013-09-27” I use the app weekly to keep my records organised digitally and my desk clutter free. CAUTION: Recently, however, it has begun to crash frequently when attempting to save scans—a frustration if you been sitting around waiting for it to scan a longer document. Make sure your scan saves before you pop that document in the shredder. UPDATE 31 Jan 2016: I emailed the developer and received a reply promptly (Thank you!). He believes it is related to an issue with OS X’s Dictation service. I have disabled Dictation and will update this review if that eliminates the crashing.

This software is good for converting existing pdf files into OCR format, but as far as scanning goes, it stinks. The resolution is very poor and it creates heavy shadows when trying to scan books. Since part of its purpose is to scan documents, I’d say it falls ridiculously short of the mark in this area. This forces me to use another application to scan the book and then just use PDF Scanner to convert to OCR since it seems that’s all it’s really good for. As a result, I’m giving it only 3 stars.

Have used PDFScanner with several 3-in-1 printers … never fails! It’s simple and productive, and intuitive for anyone. I highly recommend it. And quick.

This is one of those apps that every time you use it you say “I love this app.” I scan in all my important documents and keep them digitally organized. I love the ocr feature.

Needed to do some work urgently and this was selected and immediately upon downloading I went to work. Everything was automatic as I used an Epsom Scanner Printer All in One and MAC. Book Pro. Just hit Scan and Presto couple minutes later I scanned Hundreds of pages both sides with OCR. Great Simple to use, I simply Love it

If you need a simple reliable PDF document and you have an all in one printer…this is a must have app. Has yet to fail to do the job. 100% satisfied.

I use PDFScanner for scanning work, tax, and personal financial documents. It does exactly what I need it to do, and does it well. The de-skew feature is particularly nice.

I spent hours and hours trying to get the thing to work, following Mr. Rotthowe’s suggestions, downloading printer drivers, etc. It never worked, so I deleted it and purchased Readers 15, which worked from the get go. Mr. Rotthowe was most gracious and prompt in responding to me.

I was looking for an app/program to convert a Pilots Operating Handbook into a searchable document. I did a lot of a research and decided to take a chance on this app. To my surprise after three attempts I was able to convert a 600 page PDF image into a searchable text file.

The UI is a little on the clunky side, and some configuration settings are hard to get to from the keyboard (important when you’re scanning a lot of different kinds of documents, like bills and receipts). But the core functionality works very well, and once you get used to it, you can use it very quickly. I tried a lot of PDF scanners before this one, and it definitely was the best of the bunch.

This app has made working from home as simple as being at the office. I can’t make it without it. It scans my pages, and then does the whole OCR thing to make the documents searchable. Best $15 I ever spent. Thank you!

I use this application constantly for quick and easy scanning to .pdf. I used to use Acrobad regularly but PDFScanner handles all of my daily needs. Basic editing and maniupulation means I rarely use Acrobat. I’ve purchased and downloaded many apps in the past and many come and go but this is one that’s one of my go to apps. If it gave me a little more manipulation/edit abilities I’d give it five stars.

This app works as stated. It is easy to use and has the right features for light business and home use. So far the OCR feature has worked very well. Minimal editing on documents converted. I use a HP Photosmart scanner and there have no issues. The deskew keature works well. I wish it had a display of current scanner settings other than clicking on the settings wheel. It also works well with an Epson scanner/printer that has a sheet feeder.

I love apps that “just work”…I loaded it, it found my printer immediately, and I was in business! I use it mostly to scan music to my iPad and, as others have said -- it is fantastic for that!! I had absolutely no issues whatsoever, love to be able to “de-skew” and adjust. I highly recommend. I have all Apple products, and an HP OfficeJet printer.

While I must admit the user interface is lacking a true OS X feel, and how you convert an existing non-searchable PDF file to a searchable PDF file is completely non-intuitiave, the program does a fantastic job of converting PDF scans of whatever, into a completely searchable PDF file. That’s what I wanted, and it’s worth the $15 to do it. The interface does need a lot of polish, but since it’s only used to scan or convert, it’s not the end of the world. An excellent OCR system. Has beaten everything else I own or have tried.

Hadn’t had any problems using my scanner, except scanning from computer to PC. All kinds of problems. The ’PDF Scanner reviews were very encouraging’ so decided to give it a go. I still can’t believe a couple of clicks and the scanned subject is in or on ,whatever, my PC. either a File, Deskup, Cloud or wherever I want it with unbelievable ease.

I purchased this after looking at the positive reviews in the app store. After using it for a number of documents I find the OCR of limited accuracy, even on clean documents. I do not use this for scanning as I have a another scan to pdf program.

This pdf scanner is fast and gives me the choices that I want (e.g., resolution, color/black & white) for just about anything I need to scan. I especially like the built-in OCR and desks (which straightens the page, even if it’s tilted in the scanner).
