Image Capture can find my scanner… but this application can’t...

I probably shouldn’t get software that isn’t “try-then-buy”… I’m just going to erase the app along with the $15 I just spent.

Best Music Scanning App BAR NONE!!

Ok - So we live in the 21st century. If you’re ready to give up carrying around a suitcase full of fake books and Band/Orchestra folders then this is the app you need to scan those books/parts into small pdf’s for your tablet. It has a setting to automatically de-skew pages and it works beautifully for music. I can scan a fake book in about 2 hours with the automatic duplexer function. I start out by scanning the odd pages, then when thats done, I flip the pile over and scan the even pages starting with the last page. When thats done hit the fake duplex function and presto! Trust me if you are looking for a music scanner the the $15 is a bargain for what you get with PDFScanner! **UPDATE** Still loving this software. The iPad Pro has made scanned music even more relevant. Combined with “forScore”(iOS) on the iPad and “PDF Outliner” (OS X) to create a table of contents, I have three 600+ page libraries at my fingers that I can access any title in seconds.

Must have app for scanning - better than Adobe

Ive used this app for 3 years, and its been great! I tried it today, and noticed an issue running on OSX Yosemite - I contacted the developer who replied very quickly stating that he was aware of the issue and had submitted an update to apple which was awaiting approval. (The issue is semi minor - I cant delete the last page in a document - something I can live without until apple approves the update) Overall I cant say enough good things about this app - Ive been using it since nearly the beginning - Ive scanned 3000+ Documents using this app and its fantastic. Its recieved regular updates the whole time and has gotten better and better, although honestly, it was pretty awesome to start with. Heres why its great: I scan everything - Ive not put paper in a file cabinet in over 3 years. I have an Epson GT-S50 sheet feed scanner that scans something like 25 pages a minute on the fastest speed. I started with Acrobat - using the "twain" driver - it was slow and I had to click like 3 or 4 times just to scan. Then I found PDFScanner in the app store - what a difference - PDFScanner uses Apples image capture driver to control the scanner - what used to be a bunch of clicks with Adobe Acrobat is now a single Click in PDF scanner. Overall, its fast, really fast. but, thats not all... Fast would be great, but files need to be reasonably small also. Im happy to say the scans I do with PDFScanner are as small or smaller than the files generated by Acrobat. In the early days- I had still kept acrobat around for one thing: Small page sizes like receipts - Acrobat is great at detecting the page size automatically. As it turns out PDF Scanner has a nice option to deal with this - it still scans full size pages, but once the scan is done, you can crop the page. (You can either crop all pages at once, or one at a time, and its not necessary for all pages to be the same size) Overall I cant reccomend this program enough - Its well worth the money and 5 stars!!

Judgement Criteria: "Simplicity"

All I wanted was a simple, "scan and send” pdf app for my email. My pdf generation workload is light with the occassional email attachment of one, two, three pages with an even more occasional scan consisting of a dozen or so pages. I’ve found PDFScanner to be simple as well as consistently dependable in its operation. One tip,... the app will tell you when it has finished processing. Keep an eye out for its “status" and “work completed” messages and your work flow will go smoothly. Or, you can be impatient like me and step on it’s toes and occassionally slow things down. When that happens it will pop up a window asking clarification. Nice feature. The app publisher seems to keep the app updated. Based on the forgoing simplicity criteria: 5 stars. (And, pass my appreciation on to the publisher.)

What a pure joy to use!

They really nailed it. Make the functions most users what to perform stupid simple to use. The app deals with scanning in batches and with stuck pages brilliantly. I recently had a fairly large archive job (for me...about 200 pages) after not using the Epson scanner with ADF in over 5 years. Still burned in my mind was the difficulty of using the bundled apps or worse yet multiple apps. This app just keeps a stack of scanned pages. Just keep scanning until you want to make a file. Then clear the buffer and start again. Literally a 3 button action. Scan, Save, Clear and then repeat.

Worked fine now it doest

Worked fine for months. Now it can not find the scanner. Contacted tech support repeatedly. They were no help. They gave me answers that might help a tech specialist. I kept asking for clear steps to correct the problem. I have tried to do what they said but it did not work. I have tried to make it work with each OS update with no success.

Works Great.

Its like the software that usually comes with its. Its excellent.

Very versatile

I upgraded to the new version a few weeks ago and this version is even better than the prior one. I like the versatility of the app, the ability to scan quickly in B&W, or to get color images scanned into larger high resolution files. I can select from any printer that is configured to interface with the app, and have never had an issue with a scan or taking the final file and manipulating it in an image editor or PDF.

Very happy with this scanner

The scanner does what it’s supposed to & is very easy to use. It has both document feeder & flatbed options, as well as color or black & white. It allows one to scan multiple pages to create one document. It can also scan in OCR recognition. This scanner is fast & available when I need it. A great purchase.

Great solution for a paperless home office!!!

I’ve been scanning almost everything for years. I hate paper and like having searchable, OCR’ed PDFs on my hard drive. I was using Acrobat Pro, but the software’s quality has really declined over the last few years to the point where I’ve STACKS of unscanned documents because it took so long with Acrobat. Finding this software was a HUGE performance gain. I was scanning documents (two sided with the “fake” duplex) about 5 - 10 times faster than with Acrobat and the quality was far better with PDFScanner. I can’t recommend this software enough!!! It continues to save me time and allowed me to keep my “To Scan” pile non-existant. Thanks for creating a simple to use, quality piece of software.

Reliable

Works every time I need it. Enough said.

Works great form

I use PDFScanner to scan, OCR and later translate documents I have from different languages. The OCR is quite accurate for this purpose. It’s not perfect but I don’t expect it to be. Good buy for the price.

Works Well

I won’t say it’s the absolute best because I’ve not systematically, or even cursorily, considered them all. I will say that I like it a lot. I often get PDF documents that were scanned as full page images, so the the text is not searchable. I run them through PDFScanner and they are searchable! I also value the ability to save the document is various qualities so as to make the file sizes manageable for emailing or uploading. The scanning of original documents also so works well that I don’t keep any new paper in paper files.

Functions beyond expectations for price!

Provides simple, highly effective scanning on Mac. I had a number of documents to scan into searchale PDFs. I have an HP OfficeJet 8600 all-in-one with flatbed and automatic document feeder scanning. Insallation was absolutely simple. On first use of the product, it identified and connected to the HP scanner and was ready to go. In order for OCR to work, select the deskew option so that the lines of text are returned to horizontal in case a page feeds at an angle. I scanned a 92 page document into a single, searchable PDF and hybrid word document! My ADF only holds 50 sheets at a time, so I split the document into two batches, and at the end of the first set of pages, the software holds the job open and prompts for any additional scans. Perfect!

Works like a champ

I have been using this for about a year and it works perfectly every time. No muss, no fuss, no quirky stuff, it just plain works. I scan almost all of my bills, articles I want to keep, photos (that I didn’t get in jpg format) etc and store them. The OCR works very well, very quickly and I can find almost anything I scanned within seconds. I recommend this app to any MAC user!

Great Program

Works great the most useful PDF scanner I have found

Simply a delight

This app just works without a hitch and the simple interface helps get things done quickly. Scan your docs and move on with your life.

Does the job quickly and smoothly.

The app scans to my iMac with no problems. It immediately recognized my Epson Work Force 845. OCR works great. Have not found any significant issues with the user interface.

Perfect

For $15.00 you’re getting great OCR software. The app is fast, simple, and very effective with perks that usually come only on $$$$ OCRs like the one that starts with an “A”. You won’t regret this purchase.

Good Solid App. Does Its Job

Coming from a PC about two years ago, I wanted a simple way to scan, anytime, from anything. At the end of the day, keeping this little app on my desktop does the trick. It’s simple and intuitive. It’s OCR could use a little more smarts, but overall it works for me. I’d recommend it wholeheartedly.
